Communal representation is now in literally every sector in India from education to politics, some people are saying that it was even in existence at the time of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj but the definition of secularism back in time was different Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj didn’t have recruited Muslim troops for representation of some community in their army but they have recruited them according to their skills. Back in a time when communities were made based on their skills and abilities for the proper functioning of society at that time, there was a real need for communal representation for raising problems related to different skilled sectors but with time communities started developing based on similar religious beliefs and with such communities in existence we don’t need communal representation instead of that we should really give chance to skilled people. British people brought this communal representation to India, to stem the growing tide of nationalism in the country by dividing the people into communal lines. Religion or religious beliefs are personal things that shouldn’t interfere with the productive growth of the nation.
I really like what you have written on this reservation topic.
According to my perspective, Nowadays reservation should only given to those people who are financially challenged and only this criteria should be kept in mind. Also as you say skills are one of the major criteria which we should consider for all kind of education and job opportunities.
